Cascading Puzzle
Drop shapes, trigger chain reactions, and master the elegant mathematics of sandpiles.
Each move can set off a cascade of bursts across the board — understanding when and where they happen is the key to mastery.
Drag one of three available shapes onto the board. It must land on cells that already hold sand — every placement matters.
Any cell that reaches 4 pips instantly fires, pushing one pip to each neighbor. This can spark a chain reaction across the whole board.
Pips that fly off the edge of the board score points. The more edge cells you overload, the higher your spill count climbs.
Hit the score targets for each level to earn up to three stars. Master every level across all worlds to prove your sandpile mastery.
Pipfall's cascade system is a direct implementation of the Abelian sandpile model — a mathematical structure studied in physics and combinatorics for its beautiful self-organising behaviour.
When any cell accumulates 4 or more pips, it topples — shedding one pip to each cardinal neighbor simultaneously. The process repeats until the board reaches a stable state. Because each toppling commutes, the final result is independent of the order cells fire. This is the abelian property.
